Obituary of Clara Mae Black

Clara Mae (Dye) Black was born in Hanna, Mo. in Pulaski County on the Roubidoux River on December 15, 1918 to Stella Mae (Helton) Dye and Harvey Franklin (Whis) Dye. She lived at home until a month before her death, when she moved to Oak Pointe Assisted Living, passing away on August 14, 2020 at the age of 101. She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, George W. Black.
Clara Mae is survived by her son, George Douglas Black and wife, Patricia of Edgar Springs, MO; granddaughter, Nichole Black and husband, Sasha Milshteyn of Webster Groves, MO; grandson, Brent Douglas Black and wife, Lahne of Edgar Springs, MO; and great grandchildren, Marlena Milshteyn, Warren Ray (Buddy) Black, Beau Black, and Boone Black. She is also survived by one sister, Georgia Primus and many nieces and nephews.
Clara Mae started teaching in a one-room schoolhouse near Hanna in 1933, riding to and from school each day on a horse. She taught for 39 years, at Big Piney in Pulaski County, then Yancy Mills, Ralph School, West Point School, and finally Phelps Country R3 School in Phelps County, retiring in 1981. She was also the pianist for her church in Edgar Springs for many years.
