Mom, I don’t have any photos of you, or us together, so just thought I’d post this photo of me and your great grandson Theo, who you never got to meet. I know you would have loved him and he — you!

Here’s an anecdote that may bring a smile to someone’s face:
In the mid 80’s or so, I met another sailor whose name was Dan Poague. We weren’t stationed together, but did attend several Navy training courses together and got to be fairly close acquaintances.
Imagine my surprise when one day I get a letter from none other than Joyce Poague! My first thought was, “I don’t know a Joyce Poague!” So, after opening the letter and realizing it was from my Mom, my second thought was, “Really? Has Mom gone off and married my shipmate?”
Well, no she hadn’t, but she HAD met and married my shipmate’s Dad! So, Dan, if you see this I guess we are stepbrothers-in-law or some such thing!
One other memory I have of the few times Mom and I got to be together is the night I took her to Red Lobster for dinner. We had ordered some special drinks that came with the Red Lobster logo on them. Mom wanted to keep them as momentos, but the restaurant said they weren’t momentos. So, I finally was able to persuade management to sell them to us and Mom got to take those two glasses home with her.
Regardless of the short amount of time we got to spend together, I love you, Mom. You will be missed!
