Obituary of Harrison Eugene Edwards
Please share a memory of Harrison to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Pug, as family and friends knew him, was born in Tamms, Illinois on September 29, 1927 to Virgil Owen Edwards and Aletha Faye (Dillow) Edwards. He went to meet Jesus face to face on Tuesday, June 14, 2016 after a short battle with cancer.
Pug was preceded in death by his wife; both parents; an infant daughter, Beatrice Jean Edwards; two sons, Perry Edwards and Bruce Edwards; and infant brother, Eddy Joe; a brother, Robert Edwards; two infant grandsons, Allen Moncrief and Kyle Edwards and two granddaughters, Brianna Edwards and Shelli Vitale.
Pug married Pat on June 12, 1948 and to this union eight children were born. Pug is survived by his children, Paul Edwards and wife, Rose Anna of Elsberry, MO; Leann Green and husband, Bob of Licking, MO; Nona Smith and husband, Lee of Riverton, WY; Mark Edwards and wife, Karen of Troy, MO; Bryan Edwards and wife, Billie Jo of Licking, MO; thirteen grandchildren, Travis Edwards, Michelle Griffin and husband, Jeff; Shawn Edwards and wife, Heidi; Butch Edwards and wife, Donielle; Patrick Edwards and wife, Tara; Kelly Hackman and husband, Eric; Carolyn Moncrief; Maurie Smith; Amanda Smith; Jamie Morrow and wife, Lina; Dalton Edwards; Jazzmyn Edwards and Jordyn Edwards; twenty-four great-grandchildren; three sisters, Louise Seay, Virgie Edwards and Judi Wilson; a sister-in-law, Shirley Edwards and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Pug served his country in the United States Navy after having lied about his age to be able to enlist at the end of World War II. He was stationed in Hawaii.
Pug left Tamms as a young man and moved to St. Louis where he met and married his wife, Pat of 61 years. He became a meat cutter and was a member of Local 88. He left St. Louis and moved to their farm in Lenox, MO and purchased what was known as Wayne Dunlap’s Locker Plant in Licking. This became B & E Processing and Pug, Pat and family operated this business until his full retirement in 1987.
Pug was introduced to Jesus at a young age while in the Cub Scouts and was baptised October 26, 1941 at the First Evangelical and Reformed Church of Tamms, IL. He was confirmed and became a member of St. Pauls Lutheran Church in St. Louis on December 25, 1957. Pug was a faithful and supportive member of Salem Lutheran Church, Salem, MO. After retirement Pug and Pat spent many years with the group, Laborers for Christ, traveling around the country in their camper and doing additions to and building churches. Pug was a member of the Licking Chamber of Commerce and he and Pat were a part of the early crew that met each year early Thursday morning to get the stands cleaned and set up for the annual PRCA rodeo. As a member of the Texas County Republican Party, you always knew when Pug was there because he would be in his “Uncle Sam” hat at most every event.
Pug loved to travel, especially out west to see the mountains. He truly enjoyed spending time with family and his teasing nature was his trademark. He looked forward to his weekly card games with the guys, fall hunting trips to the deer woods with his sons and grandchildren, and many, many trips to Lake Norfolk. Pug will be missed by family and friends but will always be remembered as a loving and giving husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather and friend.
